In April, Project Drawdown is headed to SF Climate Week, a series of events across the San Francisco Bay Area gathering diverse climate organizations, leaders, and the broader community working at the intersection of climate action and innovation.

Organized by Climatebase, a digital platform for building climate careers, in collaboration with the City of San Francisco and hundreds of climate organizations and volunteers, SF Climate Week is California’s premier climate solutions summit.

Addressing Climate Change Depends on What We Eat and How We Grow It

TUESDAY, APRIL 22

SFCW at Climate One with Grist, Project Drawdown, and author Jenny Odell
11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. PT
The Commonwealth Club, 110 The Embarcadero, San Francisco

Join us for a full line-up of climate solutions, capitalism, and networking hosted by the Climate One podcast and radio series at their San Francisco headquarters.

11:00–11:45 a.m. | Cutting Through the Noise: Climate Solutions at a Crossroads

Climate solutions in the United States are moving forward despite dwindling federal support and funding for climate work. From state-level leaders and organizers to climate-focused companies, climate solutions are continuing to be rolled out and implemented across the country. Amid this, how do we determine which solutions are most urgently needed to stop climate change? And how do we cut through the noise to elevate them – and the diverse leaders championing them – in the public imagination?

Join Climate One’s Kousha Navidar in conversation with Jonathan Foley, Ph.D., Executive Director of Project Drawdown, and Nikhil Swaminathan, CEO of Grist, on how science and evocative, fact-based storytelling can spotlight the solutions our world needs most.

11:45– 11:50 a.m. | Stretch-and-Dance Break

As we prepare to welcome our next guest on stage, we’ll take a short stretch-and-dance break to a climate-themed music video featuring Will Hammond Jr. and Mike Roberts.

11:50 a.m.–12:30 p.m. | Jenny Odell on Nature, Capitalism and Life Beyond The Clock

The capitalist system, focused on profit, efficiency, and productivity, often sacrifices long-term ecological health for short-term gains. But is there a way to redefine progress in a way that is compatible with the planet’s well-being?

Join KQED’s Mina Kim in conversation with Oakland’s own Jenny Odell, visionary author and artist, as they discuss how we can reimagine our relationship with nature in a world driven by quarterly profits.

12:30–2:00 p.m. | Action Lounge and Refreshments

Join us in our Action Lounge to meet local organizations (Fixit Clinic, Climate Reality Project, SF Environment Department) and learn about various pathways to climate actions we can take as consumers and civically engaged residents. Jenny Odell will be signing books, and we'll be sharing climate-friendly treats alongside stunning views of the Bay Bridge.

Register for this paid ($20) in-person session here. The speakers and audience will be videotaped for use on YouTube, and audience questions may be included in the radio and podcast versions of the show.

When the path forward feels uncertain, stories can guide our steps toward more just and hopeful futures. By clarifying the sometimes faltering progress of the past, illuminating the dilemmas and opportunities of the present, and painting an irresistible picture of the future, telling our stories reveals our true power. Join Project Drawdown and Grist for an evening of unforgettable stories from Bay Area climate activists, artists, organizers, and innovators on the frontlines of climate solutions.

This event is presented by Grist and Project Drawdown, and includes speakers featured in Grist’s 50 Fixers initiative and the Drawdown’s Neighborhood climate solutions docuseries.

FRIDAY, APRIL 25

Meet & Make: An interactive gender x climate workshop by IDEO.org
3:00–5:30 p.m. PT
IDEO, LION Building, 350 Florida Street, San Francisco

Most Climate Week events talk about change. This event gives us all a chance to build it. Join this session hosted by IDEO.org to close out SF Climate Week with creativity, community, and hope.

The event kicks off with a series of fast-paced lightning talks from experts, implementers, and funders in the climate space, including Elizabeth Bagley, Ph.D., Managing Director at Project Drawdown. These quick, compelling sessions will highlight data and real-world insights on how women-led climate initiatives are consistently underfunded, and set the stage for collective action.

From there, the room becomes a workshop. You’ll join a small table group with the panellists and designers from IDEO.org to use design futuring tools to create an object of the future: a tangible artifact that represents the regenerative, gender-just world we’re working toward.

Expect conversation, collaboration, and a creative close to SF Climate Week, where you’ll have the opportunity to synthesize everything you’ve learned and questioned over the past few days. Refreshments and light appetizers by women-owned businesses will be served.

We hope this lineup gets you as excited as we are about #SFCW, and we look forward to seeing you in person!
