Drawdown Capital Coalition

The Drawdown Capital Coalition is a brand new program for philanthropists and investors that aims to guide billions of dollars of private capital toward strategic, science-based climate solutions that will yield the greatest benefit in the least amount of time.

To avoid climate catastrophe, we must invest heavily in what the science shows us are the most effective climate solutions as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, there is a serious disconnect between where science tells us we should put our money for the greatest impact and the broad patterns of climate investment by philanthropists, venture capitalists, and governments.

Investors and philanthropists are missing key opportunities to strategically deploy climate funds with respect to timing, geography, and co-benefits to maximize impact.

The Drawdown Capital Coalition aims to influence up to $100B in private capital toward strategic climate solutions by 2025.

By bringing the best available climate expertise to the table, we will highlight key solutions for reducing and avoiding emissions — across different timeframes, geographies, and sectors — empowering funders to make more and better investments in climate solutions.

Inquire about joining today to work with a coalition of peer philanthropists, impact investors, and others committed to accelerating their climate impact.

What We Will Achieve

Through the Capital Coalition, we will:

  • Engage, educate, inform, and inspire members to make smarter investments in climate solutions

  • Influence ~USD$100 billion in private capital toward strategic climate solutions by 2025

  • Advance awareness of opportunities to deploy climate funding with respect to timing, geography, and co-benefits, such as human health and greater biodiversity,  to maximize impact

  • Provide the structure and scientific grounding necessary for deeper collaboration on de-risking climate investments and coordinated action

What We Provide

Capital Coalition Members will be able to:

  • Participate in tailored workshops – or “boot camps” – that address topics in the climate solutions space

  • Participate in task forces to collaborate on ways to de-risk climate investments and identify emerging opportunities around ‘emergency brake’ and key climate solutions

  • Access the expertise of the Drawdown Science Team and other related experts

  • Pilot new tools and frameworks that translate climate science into information for investors and philanthropists

  • Stay up to date on best practices and emerging opportunities through peer learning and shared due diligence

  • Speak as a unified voice with other Coalition Members and Business Coalition partners to publicly encourage decision makers to accelerate policies and investments toward climate solutions

What We Require

Capital Coalition Members must:

  • be actively driven to fund climate solutions, looking beyond ESG filters and climate risk mitigation;

  • be committed to accelerating global decarbonization, including managing and measuring portfolio climate impact, or having a credible plan to do so;

  • be dedicated to going beyond being “Paris compliant” to proactively help stop climate change;

  • not be engaged in policy or shareowner advocacy against climate action, policy, or science; and

  • make an annual contribution to Project Drawdown.

Membership in the Drawdown Capital Coalition is by invitation only. Please reach out to learn more.

Both science and our planet are showing us where to focus our efforts if we are to stop climate change. We can’t waste a dollar or a day in deploying those solutions – quickly, safely, and equitably.
