Henry Igugu is a researcher and educator with expertise in building energy performance and sustainability. His work involves systems optimization in buildings for efficiency and competency development in green design. At Project Drawdown, his work focuses on assessing climate solutions in the building sector.
Previously, Henry served as a lecturer at the Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa, educating architecture students on environmental science, building physics, and academic research; as a consultant with the World Bank Group, delivering the IFC’s green building course, and a visiting international researcher at the University of Helsinki in Finland under the Digital Academies in Africa (DAIA) project.
Henry recently finalized his doctorate in architecture from the Tshwane University of Technology, where he wrote his thesis exploring the impact of practitioners, simulation practices, and industry challenges on discrepancies between the expected and actual energy performance of buildings. Outside of work, Henry enjoys volunteering at a choir playing the piano and drums, reading nonfiction books, watching (and playing) soccer, and facilitating events.
