Horses graze in a field with wind turbines in the distance.

Horses grazing on private land adjacent to EDF Renewable's 250 MW Roosevelt Wind Project in Roosevelt County, New Mexico, USA. The 125 Vestas 2-MW turbines of this project, completed in 2015, generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 138,000 average New Mexico homes, according to the US Energy Information Administration. As a result, the Roosevelt Wind Project will prevent approximately 725,000 metric tons of new greenhouse gas emissions annually, the equivalent of the annual emissions from approximately 150,000 passenger vehicles using internal combustion engines (ICE).

About Project Drawdown

The world’s leading resource for climate solutions.

We are a trusted, science-based, and independent guide for effective climate action across the globe.

As a U.S.-based nonprofit organization, our mission is to help the world stop climate change—as quickly, safely, and equitably as possible.

Our work is built on three pillars:

SCIENCE. First, we conduct cutting-edge research to identify the best possible climate solutions – and to design the most effective strategies to bring them to scale. Then, we share our findings with the world through highly effective science communication, marketing campaigns, and media partnerships.

STAKEHOLDERS. Next, we use our science to inform and inspire philanthropists, investors, business leaders, policymakers, community change-makers, and other stakeholders to take bold leadership positions and bring effective climate action to the world.

STORIES. Finally, we use the power of storytelling to help shift the narrative on climate change – from problem to solution and from “doom and gloom” toward “opportunity and possibility.” Along the way, we elevate new voices and showcase new climate heroes changing the world.

We strongly believe that good science is needed to guide effective climate action. We also believe that science must be shared in actionable and compelling ways – through stakeholder engagement and powerful storytelling. Our job is to make this happen.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, non-partisan organization, Project Drawdown is funded by individual and institutional donations.

Our Impact

From individual action to international finance and beyond, Project Drawdown is promoting the adoption of effective, science-based climate solutions around the world in partnership with corporate leaders, investors, philanthropists, policymakers, community change makers, and more.
