Project Drawdown is the world’s leading guide to science-based climate solutions. A nonpartisan nonprofit organization, we drive meaningful climate action by connecting climate leaders with science-based solutions and strategies.

We are science-based, solution-focused, nonpartisan, and transparent. While other organizations may have some of these traits, to the best of our knowledge we are the only one that combines all four.

Project Drawdown advances climate solutions through three strategies: 1) We conduct cutting-edge research to identify the best climate solutions and design the most effective strategies to bring them to scale. 2) We use our science to inform, inspire, and empower climate professionals to bring the most effective solutions to the world. 3) We use the power of storytelling to help shift the narrative on climate change from doom and gloom to hope and possibility.

Project Drawdown is headquartered in the United States, but our reach and impact extends around the world. Our web content is available in 10 languages.

“Drawdown” is the future point in time when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline.

At Project Drawdown, we define a climate solution as a physical practice or technology that materially lowers the long-term concentration of greenhouse gases and other warming pollution in the atmosphere, either by cutting emissions or removing them from the atmosphere.

Our scientists and fellows spend weeks identifying, analyzing, and synthesizing the latest research on a potential solution drawn from highly reliable sources around the world. Based on their findings, we categorize each solution as Highly Recommended, Worthwhile, Keep Watching, or Not Recommended. Highly Recommended solutions are subjected to a rigorous analysis and internal and external review process, with detailed assessments, including source data, published online. In evaluating effectiveness, cost, current and achievable adoption, and climate impact of climate solutions, we provide ranges and qualitatively convey the degree of confidence warranted by the available knowledge base. See our Drawdown Explorer methodology for more information.
